About VASPS

The primary purpose of the VASPS is to advance the art and science of plastic surgery through education, innovation and to act as patient advocates, protecting the welfare of the people of Virginia with respect to cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery.

History

The Virginia Society of Plastic Surgeons (VASPS) is dedicated to addressing legislative and regulatory issues that affect the practice of plastic surgery in Virginia. Since 2001 we have worked on issues including the scope of practice of oral surgeons, insurance payment for Alloderm and Flex HD used in breast reconstruction, advertising of cosmetic surgery and outpatient surgery regulations. After briefly reorganizing and incorporating in the state of Illinois in 2007, we re-incorporated in Virginia in 2012. In early 2019, our society became an official affiliated organization of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

This partnership with ASPS aided in our ability to end 2019 by producing our most successful VASPS Biennial Meeting to date. We look forward to our next meeting under their leadership slated for 2021.
